Alcaucín, Spain, Andalucía

My first hours in Andalucía were spent looking out of a bus window, thinking I had made a mistake. I don’t know what I had expected, but the landscape seemed to me like another planet, uninviting. I thought, this is a place that doesn’t let itself be loved easily.
When I leave, I am sure I will cry many times. You love this place like an olive tree grows. The sapling needs to fight until it can grow, to survive in the red soil that is sucked dry by the sun and millions of other trees, but one day it has developed roots that cannot be shaken by anything.
There is no place I could love as much—-
