Don’t lose hope. If it’s being shelved and edited there’s still time to make Congress do the smart thing and consult people who actually know how the internet works.
They’re probably hoping the hype will die down and they’ll be able to quietly do whatever they want, which will inevitably be a huge problem for all of us. Don’t let it. Keep up with what’s happening and keep pestering your congresspeople.
And let’s not forget about ACTA, too.

Forget for a moment that your tumblr will be deleted. Forget that you won’t be able to download music anymore.
ACTA stands for Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. ‘Counterfeit’ basically means an imitation of an original object. However, we aren’t counterfeiting anything - the movies streamed online, the music videos on youtube, information on wikipedia - all of these things are the original things. What we’re doing is file-sharing, and what ACTA is doing consequences in a more violent, controlled cyber-world - in other words, freedom of speech, opinions such as critical blogs [especially on treaties like ACTA] etc.
So, in fact, ACTA isn’t finding a solution for counterfeit products: in reality, it’s simply abolishing all possibilities for anyone to collect intellectual information through the excuse of piracy and copyrighting. The best part is that musicians, artists and journalists DON’T get any benefits from this - the content mafia does. The content mafia are organizations such as the RIAA and MPAA. These companies could potentially take sentences and copyright them. Imagine how many times the words “I love you” have been presented in songs. Now imagine that this phrase is copyrighted so that an artist would have to ‘rent’ it in order to use it. It doesn’t help artists at all.
